FROM THE ARTICLE
I haven’t been involved with Mortal Kombat for years, but given today’s date and the fact that this is my first ever post, I thought it fitting to dedicate it to the many Mortal Kombat fans out there.

The following is my recollection of a Sunday night, 20 years ago today…

It was June 14th 1992 and the Chicago Bulls had just won their second NBA championship against the Portland Trail Blazers. I was at home, watching the game with my dad in the brick and mortar two-flat I grew up in on Chicago’s Near West Side. We lived just far south enough to be Sox fans, but close enough to what’s considered the city’s North side to intermingle with devotees of our blue-capped loveable-losing rivals, and several blocks away from the Madhouse on Madison aka the Chicago Stadium—home of the Bulls. Unfortunately for me, the Bulls had won game 6 at home, which meant there would be a horde of traffic around Chicago Stadium. This was a problem because I needed to skirt past the stadium on my way to an arcade on the city’s far north side for the very first weekend test collection of Mortal Kombat… and I had to get there before the anticipated celebratory rioting started.
